Flame Hardening is a process that humans have used for thousands of years to case harden things like spear and arrow points. The Thorium Flame Hardening process dries each bat slightly and seals the pores of the wood. In addition, the oleoresins released from the wood mixed with the charcoal that forms on the surface gives a harder grain than straight timber alone.

The Flame Hardening process is done completely by hand over an open flame, sanded a second time to perfection, steel hardened at 2000 RPM and finally clear coated.

Thorium Flame Hardened bats have the most beautiful, smoothest finish in our line of professional grade ash bats. They can be clear coated or stained to your color choice following the flame hardening process.
